Clint Eastwood reportedly steps away from acting and directing at 96
Clint Eastwood has reportedly retired from acting and directing at 96, according to remarks by his son Kyle Eastwood. The veteran filmmaker's reported exit would close a career spanning more than 70 years in Hollywood.

ISLAMABAD: Clint Eastwood has retired from both acting and directing after a career that lasted more than seven decades, with the indication coming from remarks by his son, musician Kyle Eastwood, in an interview with French broadcaster France 3.
The comments resurfaced recently and have been taken as a sign that the veteran Hollywood figure has quietly ended his work in films. In the interview, conducted before Clint Eastwood turned 96 on May 31, Kyle Eastwood referred to his father as retired and spoke about their collaborations over the years.
Speaking about working with him, Kyle Eastwood said:
He also described their joint work on several films as a great experience. There has been no formal statement from Clint Eastwood or his representatives, but the remarks have been widely seen as confirmation that he has stepped back from filmmaking.
A career spanning acting and directing
Eastwood began appearing on screen in the mid-1950s before becoming internationally known in the 1960s through Sergio Leone's Western films, including A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965) and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966). Those roles helped establish his image as a taciturn Western antihero.
He later became closely associated with the Dirty Harry series, which started in 1971, playing San Francisco detective Harry Callahan across five films, including Magnum Force (1973) and The Dead Pool (1988). The role became one of the defining parts of his screen career.
Beyond Westerns and action films, Eastwood also received acclaim for performances in The Beguiled, Escape from Alcatraz, Unforgiven (1992) and Gran Torino (2008), showing a broader range than the tough-guy roles that first made him famous.
Recognition behind the camera
As a director, Eastwood made his debut with Play Misty for Me in 1971 and went on to direct films including The Bridges of Madison County, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, Letters from Iwo Jima, American Sniper and Sully.
His work behind the camera brought him four Academy Awards, including Best Director for Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby. He also received several Golden Globes, Directors Guild of America Awards and honorary distinctions including an Honorary Cesar, an Honorary Golden Lion and an Honorary Palme d'Or.
Across his career, Eastwood amassed more than 70 acting credits and over 40 directing credits. He directed several performers to Oscar-winning roles, among them Gene Hackman, Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman.
If the retirement is confirmed, his final film as director would be the 2024 courtroom drama Juror #2, while his last screen appearance was in 2021's Cry Macho, which he also directed.
