LAHORE: Lahore Police is “capable enough and fully alert” to maintain peace and security during Muharramul Haram, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana said on Tuesday while chairing a high-level meeting to review Muharram security arrangements at the Capital City Police Headquarters.
The meeting conducted a detailed review of the overall law-and-order situation and the comprehensive security plan devised for the holy month. During the briefing, the DIG (Operations) and SP (Security) informed participants about identified flashpoints across the city and the measures being put in place to ensure public safety.
The CCPO directed officers to maintain strict surveillance of sensitive locations and identified hotspots, while ordering indiscriminate action against any violations of government-issued standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Mr Kamyana further instructed the deployment of rooftop security personnel on high-rise buildings situated along mourning procession routes. He also directed the concerned officers to obtain clearance certificates from owners and residents of buildings located on these routes as an additional precautionary measure to ensure the safety of mourners.
To facilitate both mourners and the general public, the CCPO asked the Chief Traffic Officer to formulate a comprehensive traffic management and parking plan for Muharram. He also directed supervisory officers to take preventive measures against electrical hazards, including risks posed by power poles and exposed wiring, particularly during rainfall.
Emphasising the welfare of police personnel assigned to Muharram duties, Mr Kamyana instructed the SP (Headquarters) to ensure the timely provision of meals and drinking water to officials deployed on security assignments.
Addressing the meeting, the CCPO stressed the importance of close coordination with the district administration, peace committee members, procession organisers, caretakers of religious institutions, licence holders and other stakeholders to help maintain a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere throughout Muharram.
The meeting was attended by DIG (Administration) Imran Kishwar, DIG (Operations) Muhammad Faisal Kamran, Chief Traffic Officer Abdul Rahim Shirazi, SSP (Operations) Tauqeer Muhammad Naeem, SP (Security), SP (Dolphin), SP (Headquarters) and all divisional SPs (Operations).
