Nvidia unveils AI PC chip for laptops and desktops
Nvidia has launched the RTX Spark chip to bring AI capabilities directly to laptops and desktops, expanding its push into personal computing. The company says the processor, developed with MediaTek, will debut this fall in devices from major PC makers.

TAIPEI: Nvidia on Monday introduced a new processor aimed at bringing artificial intelligence functions directly to personal computers, as the company moves into a market where it will compete with Advanced Micro Devices, Intel and Apple.
Chief executive Jensen Huang, speaking in Taiwan ahead of the Computex trade show, said the RTX Spark PC chip forms part of Nvidia’s work with Microsoft to reshape personal computing for the AI era after three years of cooperation between the two companies. The chip was developed with Taiwan’s MediaTek and is due to appear this fall in laptops and compact desktop systems from Dell, HP, Lenovo, ASUS, Microsoft Surface and MSI. Models from Acer and GIGABYTE are expected later.
The new processor is designed to run autonomous AI agents on devices themselves rather than depending only on cloud services. Nvidia, which has built a dominant position in chips used to train AI models, is now seeking a larger share of the market for inference processors, which handle AI-generated responses and routine automated tasks.
Push into AI personal computing
The company’s latest move comes as it looks to benefit from expected growth in AI hardware demand and expand beyond its current strengths. Reception to AI PCs has varied so far. HP said last week that such devices supported its quarterly sales, while Dell had earlier indicated that demand was weaker than first anticipated. Qualcomm has also been offering AI PCs alongside Microsoft.
Counterpoint Research co-founder Neil Shah said the new platform could significantly alter how personal computers are used for AI.
