Policeman guarding polio team injured in firing attack in Chaman

QUETTA: A police official assigned to protect a polio vaccination team was seriously injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire near the Ishaqzai Qila area of Chaman on Sunday, police said.

According to police, the attackers targeted a policeman deployed with the anti-polio team, leaving Hawaldar Habib-ur-Rehman critically wounded. He was shifted to Civil Hospital Chaman, where he was receiving treatment.

Police officials said members of the polio team remained unharmed and were moved to a secure location after the attack. Additional police personnel were sent to the area following the incident.

Authorities said similar attacks on security personnel assigned to polio teams had also taken place in the area in the past. Police launched a search operation after the shooting and said efforts were under way to trace the attackers.
