Summer vacations in Islamabad schools, colleges to begin on May 25
Public sector schools and colleges in Islamabad will observe summer vacations from May 25 to July 31, 2026, under an FDE notification. Institutions will reopen on August 3, while some academic and administrative activities will continue during the break.

ISLAMABAD: Public sector schools and colleges in the federal capital will begin summer vacations on May 25 and remain closed until July 31, 2026, according to a notification issued by the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE).
The notification said the institutions will reopen on August 3, 2026, after the summer break. The schedule applies to public sector educational institutions operating under the FDE in Islamabad.
Vacation schedule and summer activities
According to the notification, a two-week Summer Fiesta will also be held from June 15. The document outlined additional academic and administrative activities that will continue during the vacation period despite the closure of regular classes.
To ensure the syllabus is completed on time, the FDE directed institutions to arrange coaching classes for students of Grades IX and X during June or July. The notification said only the required faculty would be engaged for these classes.
The FDE also stated that these sessions may be conducted through digitally connected classrooms in institutions. As set out in the notification, live classes may be held in June, while recorded sessions may be used in July.
"These classes may also be conducted through the digital hub connected classroom in the institutions, with the live classes in June and recorded sessions in July," the FDE notified.
Undergraduate classes to continue
While schools and colleges will observe summer vacations, the notification said classes for undergraduate students enrolled in BS and ADP programmes will continue in line with the academic schedule and semester calendar.
This means the summer break announced for schools and colleges does not alter the timetable already set for undergraduate programmes, which will proceed according to their existing academic plans.
Teacher training and maintenance work
The notification further said training sessions for teachers will be organised during the summer vacation. In addition, repair and maintenance work in educational institutions will be carried out during the same period.
Stock checking will also be undertaken during the vacation, according to the notification. The measures indicate that, alongside the academic break for students, institutions will use the period for administrative work, staff development and upkeep of facilities.
The summer vacation schedule, the Summer Fiesta, coaching classes for matric-level students, continuation of undergraduate classes, teacher training, and maintenance-related work were all detailed in the FDE notification issued for public sector institutions in Islamabad.
