Pakistan Railways steps up drive to recover encroached land
Pakistan Railways has set a target of recovering railway land worth Rs10 billion this year, with 40% already achieved. The update was shared during IG Railway Police Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan’s visit to the Mughalpura Workshops Division.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has intensified its campaign to reclaim railway land and has set a target of recovering property worth Rs10 billion during the current year, according to Inspector General Railway Police Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan.
The target and the progress made so far were shared during the IG’s visit to the Mughalpura Workshops Division, where he reviewed administrative, security and operational arrangements in detail. According to the information provided during the visit, 40% of the annual target has already been achieved.
Review of security and operations
During the visit, Sultan inspected the SP Office, the Railway Police Station Workshops and Nisar Railway Police Lines. He also examined the performance of different branches as part of the broader review of the division’s functioning.
The visit focused on multiple aspects of railway administration, including security arrangements and the ongoing effort to retrieve railway land. The land recovery campaign is part of Pakistan Railways’ wider push to regain control of its properties.
Briefing at Mughalpura Workshops Division
SP Workshops Syed Abrar Abbas briefed the inspector general on the security measures currently in place as well as the operations being carried out to recover railway land. The briefing was given upon the IG’s arrival and formed part of the official review of the division’s performance and preparedness.
The Mughalpura Workshops Division was one of the stops where the railway police chief assessed both operational readiness and administrative management. The review also covered the arrangements at police facilities linked to the workshops division.
The update shared during the visit indicates that Pakistan Railways has already made notable progress toward its land recovery goal for the year. Officials linked the ongoing campaign with efforts to strengthen oversight of railway assets and improve institutional performance across relevant departments.
The inspection by the railway police chief brought together issues of land retrieval, security management and branch-level performance, reflecting the administration’s current focus on both asset protection and operational monitoring within the railway system.
