Prince Rahim Aga Khan V was later presented with a guard of honour at the President’s House, where he stood alongside President Zardari during the national anthem ceremony.
The Ismaili leader is expected to visit several areas of Gilgit-Baltistan from May 21 to 25 and attend public gatherings and ceremonies during the trip.
Officials said he would be accorded the status of a state guest during the visit.
Authorities have been preparing arrangements for the visit following a high-level meeting in Gilgit chaired by Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam.
The meeting was informed that large gatherings were expected in Passu, Gilgit City, Gahkuch Bala and Taus Yasin, with officials considering multiple sessions at some venues due to anticipated crowds.
Authorities have also issued directions to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply in Upper Hunza and nearby areas, while additional transport and travel facilitation measures are being considered for visitors.
