KP seeks immediate restoration of CNG gas supply

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has written an urgent letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, seeking immediate intervention over the federal government’s decision to cut gas supply to the CNG sector in the province.

In his letter, the chief minister highlighted what he described as K-P’s significant gas position, stating that the province produces around 494 MMCFD of natural gas while its average consumption stands at approximately 120 MMCFD.

He said the CNG sector requires about 36–40 MMCFD of gas, which has reportedly been diverted to the fertiliser sector. He warned that the move could lead to widespread agitation among stakeholders.

The development adds to ongoing tensions between the provincial and federal governments over energy distribution and allocation, particularly in relation to industrial and transport fuel supply chains.

Authorities have not yet issued a formal response to the letter.
