China signals readiness to work with US on implementing leaders' consensus after Trump visit

BEIJING: China said on Monday that it stands ready to work with the United States to fully and accurately implement the important consensus reached between the two heads of state during US President Donald Trump’s recent visit to China, underscoring renewed efforts to stabilise bilateral ties.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a regular press briefing while responding to media queries regarding the White House statement outlining the outcomes of the visit.

Guo said that during the talks between President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump, both sides agreed on a “new vision” for building a constructive China-US relationship featuring strategic stability. He added that the two leaders also laid out plans for the next phase of high-level engagement across diplomatic, economic and sectoral cooperation channels.

According to Chinese official readouts, the discussions also covered strengthening dialogue mechanisms in trade, investment, and global governance, with both sides expressing willingness to maintain communication at multiple levels to manage differences and expand cooperation.

Guo said the two presidents reached broad understandings on advancing stable and predictable China-US relations, with an emphasis on preventing miscalculations and ensuring that competition remains manageable.

Beijing described the agreed framework as one that could guide future interactions between the world’s two largest economies, particularly at a time of global uncertainty and economic fragmentation.

The spokesperson further noted that Xi Jinping and Donald Trump held in-depth exchanges on major international and regional issues of shared concern. While details were not disclosed, Chinese media reports said the discussions covered global security challenges, economic stability, and regional flashpoints.

Guo emphasised that both sides recognised the importance of maintaining communication on sensitive issues to prevent escalation and promote stability in international affairs.

China said it expects continued high-level interactions with the United States in the coming period, including working-level consultations on trade, diplomacy, and global coordination mechanisms.

The Foreign Ministry reiterated that both sides should follow the strategic guidance set by the two heads of state and ensure that agreed understandings are effectively implemented to strengthen mutual trust and reduce friction.

Guo added that China remains committed to maintaining dialogue with Washington while managing differences through consultation and cooperation.
