China hopes U.S. will jointly implement consensus reached in two presidents’ phone call

BEIJING: A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Thursday called on the U.S. to work with China to implement the important consensus reached during the phone call between the two heads of state, reduce misunderstandings, and strengthen cooperation through communication and dialogue.

Lin Jian made the remarks during a regular press briefing in response to a query on the meeting of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism concluded in London.

Lin stressed that the meeting was held under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state. The two sides reached a consensus in principle under the framework of implementing the important consensus reached by the two heads of state in their phone call on June 5 and consolidating the outcomes of the economic and trade talks in Geneva, he said.

“The two side have made new progress in resolving each other’s economic and trade concerns,” said Lin.

Now that a consensus has been reached, both sides should abide by it, Lin said, calling for giving full play to the role of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism.
