Man arrested for murdering daughter

KARACHI: Police said they have solved a three-year-old blind murder case involving the alleged abduction and killing of an 18-year-old girl, and have arrested her father as the main suspect.

The victim, identified only by the initial K, had first been reported missing in what was registered as a kidnapping case. Investigators later concluded that she had been killed, and police said her father, Irshad, was taken into custody and sent to judicial custody.

According to DSP Saddar Circle Jamshed Akram, the girl wanted to marry a local man, identified as Iftikhar, of her own choice, but her family was strongly against the relationship. Police said the disagreement created tension in the household, while the father allegedly feared that she might run away.

Investigation reopened

Police said the suspect allegedly took his daughter on a motorcycle on the pretext of visiting her grandmother. Investigators said that near a canal, he allegedly pushed her into the water, causing her death.

According to police, the suspect later went to the authorities and lodged a kidnapping case in an attempt to divert the investigation. The case remained unresolved for years before a special investigation team reopened it.

Police said the team traced the suspect through human intelligence and technical evidence gathered during the renewed inquiry. After completing the investigation, police said they found the father responsible for the killing.

DSP Jamshed Akram said the case had initially appeared to be a kidnapping, but the fresh investigation led police to treat it as a murder case. He said the arrest was made after investigators pieced together evidence collected over the course of the inquiry.

The police account states that the killing followed the family’s opposition to the girl’s wish to marry a man of her choosing. Officials said the father was arrested after investigators revisited the case and examined both intelligence inputs and technical material.

Authorities said the suspect has now been sent to judicial custody. Police maintained that the case, first presented as an abduction, was in fact a murder, and said the renewed investigation led them to identify and arrest the victim’s father.
