PESHAWAR: Security forces killed nine terrorists while repelling an attack on an army camp in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district, official sources said on Friday. Four security personnel were martyred in the exchange, according to the same sources.
The sources said militants belonging to Fitna-al-Khawarij — the state-designated term for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) — launched the assault on Thursday night. They said the attackers used explosives and attempted to enter the camp through one of its gates while also opening fire.
According to official sources, security forces responded in time and effectively thwarted the assault. They said the attackers failed in their attempt to breach the camp despite using explosives and intense firing.
Initial reports indicated that nine terrorists were killed during the engagement, while four soldiers embraced martyrdom, the sources said. They added that a search and clearance operation was continuing at the camp after the attack.
The sources also said injured security personnel had been shifted to Peshawar for medical treatment.
The banned TTP claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement.

The incident came three days after a blast in Lakki Marwat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa killed nine people, including two traffic policemen. More than 30 others were injured in that attack.
Earlier, on May 9, 15 police personnel were martyred in a suicide attack on the Fateh Khel police post in Bannu district.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed an increase in militant violence over the past year. According to the Annual Security Report 2025 issued by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), the province saw a marked rise in violence last year as
fatalities rose from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025.
The latest attack in Bajaur adds to a series of violent incidents reported from the province in recent days, underscoring the continuing security challenges in the region.
