LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Friday called upon people to renew their commitment to love, respect and stronger family bonds, describing family as the greatest source of strength, protection and happiness in society.

In her message on the International Day of Families, the chief minister said the annual observance aimed to highlight the central role of family in building a healthy society and to create awareness about the importance of strong family values.

“Family is not merely a word, but another name for love, sincerity, sacrifice and true companionship,” Maryam Nawaz said, adding that the institution of family remained the foundation of moral upbringing and social harmony.

She prayed that every family remained safe, united and blessed with enduring affection and mutual respect, observing that life’s hardships become easier when families stand together through difficult times.

The chief minister termed family the first institution of learning, saying respect for elders, proper upbringing and education of children, and fulfilling every relationship with sincerity were the defining characteristics of an ideal family system.

Maryam Nawaz remarked that every member of her own family was her most valuable asset and described the support of family as her greatest source of strength and happiness.

“Those who are blessed with a supportive family standing beside them like a shadow are truly fortunate,” she said, urging people to spend quality time with their parents, siblings and children and express gratitude for their presence and sacrifices.

She added that family members stand shoulder to shoulder with one another during every difficult phase of life, making the family institution the strongest pillar of emotional and social support.

Highlighting the Punjab government’s welfare initiatives, the chief minister said financial assistance had been extended to around four million families through the Ramazan Nigehban Package during the holy month of Ramazan, with aid delivered directly to deserving households at their doorsteps.

She further stated that financial assistance of Rs10,000 each had been provided to millions of deserving families, while over 1.4 million families had also benefited through ration card facilities introduced by the provincial government.

Meanwhile, the chief minister expressed deep sorrow and grief over the demise of former provincial minister and senior Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Malik Nadeem Kamran.

Maryam Nawaz extended heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the bereaved family and paid tribute to the late leader’s political and public services.

She described Malik Nadeem Kamran as a people-friendly politician who remained closely connected with party workers throughout his political career, adding that his services for Pakistan Muslim League (N) would always be remembered.
