Pakistan to hold regional envoys’ conference on Iran-US conflict from May 14

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office is set to host a regional envoys’ conference in Islamabad from May 14 to 18 as the government reviews the ongoing Iran-US conflict and assesses Pakistan’s diplomatic approach in light of its economic and geostrategic interests.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced the meeting in a post on X, saying, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will convene a Regional Envoys' Conference in Islamabad from 14–18 May 2026."

Dar said the conference would examine developments at the regional and global levels as well as Pakistan’s bilateral ties with friendly countries. "The conference will review regional and global developments and Pakistan's bilateral relations with brotherly countries, focusing on multifaceted areas. The recommendations of the conference would contribute towards further strengthening Pakistan's bilateral relations with these countries," he wrote.

"Pakistan remains committed to proactive diplomacy and sustained regional engagement," he added.

The high-level meeting will bring together Pakistan’s ambassadors and envoys serving in important capitals across West Asia and the Middle East. The discussions are expected to cover the changing geopolitical environment, economic pressures and Pakistan’s bilateral engagements amid tensions between Iran and the United States.

The Iran-US confrontation is expected to remain the central subject during the five-day conference. The gathering comes as Islamabad continues diplomatic engagement on regional developments.

Focus on regional developments

The conference is being convened as Pakistan reviews the wider implications of the conflict for the region. The meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for envoys to share assessments from their respective postings and help shape recommendations for the government’s future diplomatic engagement.

Dar’s statement indicated that the conference would not be limited to a single issue, but would also take up broader regional and international developments alongside Pakistan’s relations with countries described by him as brotherly states.

The recommendations emerging from the conference, according to Dar, are intended to support efforts to further strengthen Pakistan’s bilateral relations with those countries.

The development reflects Pakistan’s stated emphasis on continued diplomatic outreach at a time of heightened tensions in West Asia and the Middle East. The Foreign Office conference is expected to serve as a platform for reviewing both immediate regional challenges and the broader direction of Pakistan’s external engagement in the affected region.
