ISLAMABAD: Pakistan hosted its first open water Olympic triathlon on Sunday, with the Activit Margalla Triathlon 2026 bringing together hundreds of athletes and fitness enthusiasts at Gulberg Greens Lake Front in the federal capital.
The event was organised by Margalla Trail Runners (MTR) and powered by Activit. It featured the three core disciplines of triathlon — swimming, cycling and running — in what organisers presented as a landmark moment for the country’s sports scene.
Held at the lakeside venue in Gulberg Greens, the competition drew participants from different age groups, with both male and female athletes taking part across categories. The turnout reflected growing interest in multisport competition in Pakistan, according to the event details.
Winners across categories
In the Olympic Solo category, Evgenii Yusyuk finished first. Shahrez Khan secured the top position in the Sprint-Solo Male category, while Saltanat Simbina won the Sprint Solo Female event.
The programme also included a 5km Fun Run, which saw strong participation. Idrees Sheen led the male category, while Enub Khan finished first in the female category.
The venue remained busy throughout the event as participants were supported by friends and family members gathered along the course. The triathlon was presented not only as a competition but also as a community-focused event promoting fitness, endurance sports and healthy living.
Event dedicated to soldiers
According to the organisers, the first open water Olympic triathlon in Pakistan was dedicated to the bravery of Pakistan’s soldiers. The tribute honoured those who, the event statement said, raised the national flag to new heights last year during Marka-e-Haq.
The event combined competitive racing with a broader message centred on resilience and physical endurance. Organisers linked the determination shown by athletes during the race with a wider spirit of national excellence.
With hundreds of competitors and spectators in attendance, the Activit Margalla Triathlon 2026 marked a notable addition to Pakistan’s sporting calendar and highlighted increasing public engagement with endurance-based events in Islamabad.
