Ajoka Theatre Marks 42 Years with Special ‘Bulha’ Performance

LAHORE: Ajoka Theatre is celebrating its 42nd anniversary with a special performance of its internationally acclaimed play “Bulha” at Alhamra Hall No. 1, Lahore. The event marks a significant milestone in Ajoka’s over four-decade-long journey of socially relevant and meaningful theatre. The performance is presented in collaboration with the Lahore Arts Council.

Written by Shahid Nadeem and directed by late Madeeha Gauhar, “Bulha” is a powerful dramatic portrayal of the spiritual journey of Sufi poet Bulleh Shah (1680–1758). Set in a period of political chaos, religious strife, and ideological conflict during the decline of the Mughal Empire, the play strongly resonates with contemporary realities.

Through Bulleh Shah’s search for truth, devotion to Shah Inayat, and resistance to intolerance and violence, the play delivers a timeless message of love, peace, and harmony. The production also features live qawwali and dance, enriching its spiritual and cultural depth.

Speaking on the occasion of Ajoka’s 42nd anniversary, Executive Director Shahid Nadeem said: “Celebrating 42 years of Ajoka is a moment of pride and renewed commitment. Our journey has always been about meaningful, socially engaged theatre that speaks to its time while staying rooted in human values. Ajoka continues to evolve with energy, passion, and a belief that theatre can inspire reflection, dialogue, and positive change.”

The evening will also feature a special live performance by renowned folk singer Muskan Noshahi, adding a vibrant musical celebration to the anniversary event. Ajoka Theatre invites the theatre lovers to be part of its 42nd anniversary celebrations.
