Punjab announces school summer vacations from May 22 to August 24
Punjab has announced summer vacations for schools from May 22 to August 24, according to Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat. The decision comes amid warnings of above-normal temperatures and other weather-related risks.

Islamabad: Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced that summer vacations for schools across the province will begin on May 22 and continue until August 24.
In a statement issued on Monday, the provincial education minister said the break would last for more than three months, giving students an extended summer recess.
The decision comes as high temperatures continue to affect different parts of the country, with hot weather expected to persist in the coming days. The announcement is likely to provide relief to both students and teachers amid the ongoing heat spell.
Weather warnings cited amid rising temperatures
Last week, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority had warned that temperatures across the province were expected to remain above normal, while rain was also forecast until July.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department had also cautioned that several regions could face heatwaves, flash floods, urban flooding and windstorms in the months ahead.
According to the weather department, the increase in temperatures could also lead to strong winds, dust storms and hailstorms, with possible effects on seasonal crops, vegetables and orchards.
Longer break than last year’s initial schedule
The newly announced vacation period is longer than the schedule initially notified last year. In 2025, the Punjab government had declared summer holidays for schools from May 28 to August 14.
However, the authorities later extended those vacations for all public and private schools until August 31 because of extreme weather conditions in the province.
The latest announcement sets this year’s school closure period from May 22 to August 24, as the province prepares for another season of intense heat and related weather risks flagged by disaster management and meteorological authorities.
The vacations would begin on May 22.
The vacation would continue until August 24.
The summer break applies to schools in Punjab, according to the announcement made by the provincial education minister. The decision follows official weather advisories issued by both the PDMA and the Met Office, which have warned of a range of heat- and rain-related hazards in the coming months.
Authorities had previously adjusted the academic calendar last year as weather conditions worsened, and this year’s schedule has now been announced in advance through the minister’s statement.
