RAWALPINDI: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir on Sunday warned that any future “misadventure” against Pakistan would invite extremely “dangerous, far-reaching and painful” consequences for the enemy.

“Our enemies should know that if any attempt is made in the future to carry out a misadventure against Pakistan, then the impact of war would not be limited, but extremely widespread, dangerous, far-reaching and painful,” Field Marshal Munir said while addressing the main ceremony marking the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

The conflict with India — spanning from the April 22 Pahalgam attack to the conclusion of Operation Bunyanum Marsoos with a ceasefire on May 10 — has been termed “Marka-e-Haq” (Battle of Truth) by the state.

At the outset of his speech, the army chief said the day was a “source of pride” for Pakistan, its people, and the armed forces.

He recalled that the “enemy attempted to test Pakistan’s resolve by violating its sovereignty and territorial integrity” between the midnight of May 6/7 and May 10, adding that the response came “with full national unity and military force.”

“Marka-e-Haq was not merely a traditional war between two countries or militaries, but a decisive battle between two ideologies, in which, by the grace of Allah, truth prevailed and falsehood was defeated,” he said.

Quoting a Quranic verse on truth and falsehood, he stated that the May 2025 conflict was “not a sudden incident, but part of India’s false and widening pattern of exploitative tactics.”

He cited what he described as “false flag operations of 2001, 2008, 2016 and 2019,” saying they reflected repeated attempts to impose an “illegitimate war on Pakistan” through allegations, exaggeration and war rhetoric.

“Each time, not only did Pakistan expose the enemy’s flawed assumptions, but also inflicted a decisive defeat. In this war as well, India once again fell victim to its obsolete and self-delusional thinking,” he said.

Field Marshal Munir said the objective of Operation Bunyanum Marsoos was to expose “enemy behaviour under which, to divert attention from internal failures, it creates war hysteria by blaming Pakistan for every self-inflicted incident.”

He added that India mistakenly believed it could “alter the regional balance of power and establish dominance through aggression against Pakistan and diplomatic isolation.”

“But global and defence experts know that India’s ambitions proved far greater than its stature and capabilities,” he said, adding that Pakistan’s armed forces would never be intimidated by power or dominance.

He paid tribute to the martyrs of Marka-e-Haq, including women, elderly and children who lost their lives in Indian strikes.

“All martyrs of Marka-e-Haq and their families are our crown. Their sacrifices are guarantors of our independence and lasting obligation,” he said.

The army chief expressed gratitude to the president, prime minister, federal cabinet, political leadership, and all parties for what he termed their “political wisdom and leadership” during the conflict.

He said Pakistan’s entire political and institutional structure delivered a unified message that “no compromise on sovereignty, territorial integrity and national honour is acceptable.”

Field Marshal Munir said Pakistan also achieved success on the diplomatic front, with its representatives effectively presenting the national position internationally.

He praised the media, journalists, and youth for countering “enemy propaganda, cyber warfare and psychological operations.”

“The conflict was not won only on the battlefield, but across every segment of society,” he said.

Highlighting national unity, he said that when tensions escalated, “every ideological and individual identity transformed into Pakistaniyat,” adding that citizens stood united “like an iron wall” alongside the armed forces.

“In this battle, not only did the armed forces defeat the aggressor beyond imagination, but joint operations of ground, naval and air forces forced the enemy into retreat,” he said.

He praised the Air Force for setting “a unique example of modern aerial warfare,” claiming it downed enemy aircraft and destroyed multiple installations.

He also commended the Navy for keeping enemy naval assets at a distance and praised forces along the Line of Control for repelling aggression and inflicting losses on enemy positions.

He said India suffered “significant human and economic losses” and claimed Pakistan successfully targeted more than 26 military targets, after which India sought a ceasefire through international mediation.

“Defeated India expressed the desire for mediation through American leadership, which Pakistan accepted in the interest of regional peace,” he said.

Future conflicts to be multi-domain

Field Marshal Munir said Pakistan’s defence against external aggression was “absolutely invincible,” stressing commitment to regional balance and deterrence.

“Our focus is peace, not aggression — but maintaining peace requires constant preparedness for war,” he said.

He noted that future wars would involve “multi-domain operations” incorporating cyber, electronic warfare, drones, long-range systems and artificial intelligence.

He said steps were being taken to align the armed forces with modern warfare, including the establishment of Defence Forces Headquarters, expansion of the space programme, and formation of the Army Rocket Force Command.

He also cited induction of Hangor-class submarines, modern fighter jets, and the Fatah missile series as examples of modernization.

However, he stressed that defence preparedness was not limited to weapon systems alone but also required “new thinking, training, and research.”

Pakistan’s diplomatic success

Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir said Marka-e-Haq had produced significant positive outcomes for Pakistan’s foreign policy and diplomatic standing, asserting that the world now viewed Pakistan as an “invincible power”.

“The number of our friends in the world today is much higher compared to the past,” he said, adding that even countries and circles that once criticised Pakistan were now acknowledging and praising its role.

The army chief described last year’s “Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement” with Saudi Arabia as a major diplomatic milestone for Pakistan.

He also highlighted Pakistan’s “balanced, unbiased and responsible diplomacy”, particularly its role in hosting “historic negotiations” between the United States and Iran.

Field Marshal Asim Munir thanked the US and Iranian leadership, particularly Donald Trump, for “trusting Pakistan with this difficult task”.

‘Only one demand from Afghanistan’

The army chief said India had intensified what he termed “state-sponsored terrorism and the strategy of supporting it”.

“It has realised that it is impossible to defeat Pakistan on the traditional battlefield. Subsequently, it has once again resorted to the disgusting tactic of terrorism,” he said.

He further alleged that terrorist activities were also being carried out from the soil of Afghanistan.

“Pakistan has only one demand from Afghanistan: to stop supporting Fitna al Khawarij and Fitna al Hindustan on India’s directives, and to completely eliminate terrorist centres and safe havens on its soil,” Field Marshal Munir said.

He commended the country’s law enforcement agencies, security personnel and citizens — particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan — for their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism over the past two decades.

The army chief reaffirmed the state’s determination to completely eradicate terrorism.

‘Story of Pakistan incomplete without Kashmir’

Referring to the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Field Marshal Asim Munir said the “story of Pakistan is incomplete without Kashmir”.

He stressed that resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people was essential to end what he described as “India’s reign of state brutality and violence”.

“The ground realities of India-occupied Kashmir cannot be changed through demographic or social re-engineering,” he said.

“We will continue raising our voice for the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination at every forum and continue extending political, diplomatic and moral support to the Kashmiri people,” he added.

The army chief expressed confidence that the nation would continue confronting future challenges “like an iron wall” while further strengthening the country through progress and development.

Before the army chief’s address, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf laid floral wreaths at the Yadgar-i-Shuhada (Martyrs’ Monument).

Smartly turned-out contingents of the three armed services presented a salute, followed by the playing of the national anthem.

‘Testament to enduring spirit of courage and unity’

Earlier, in separate messages, Field Marshal Asim Munir, ACM Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu and Admiral Naveed Ashraf congratulated the nation and armed forces personnel on completion of one year since the success of Marka-e-Haq.

“Observed with deep reverence, gratitude and national fervour, the day stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of courage, professionalism and unity,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement quoting the military leadership.

The statement described Marka-e-Haq as a “defining landmark” in Pakistan’s national journey, reflecting “national resolve, military excellence and strategic maturity”.

It said the success had strengthened national confidence and established Pakistan as a “responsible regional stabiliser possessing formidable military capabilities”.

According to the ISPR, Pakistan’s “measured and resolute response” during Marka-e-Haq exposed “adversarial conspiracies, false flag narratives and disinformation campaigns”, damaging their international credibility.

“Despite facing conventional and hybrid challenges, including proxy terrorism, the armed forces demonstrated superior operational competence across land, air, sea, cyber and information domains,” the statement added.

It further stated that following Marka-e-Haq, Pakistan had “further enhanced its defensive capabilities and reinforced full-spectrum deterrence despite resource asymmetries.”

Pakistan Navy marks Marka-e-Haq anniversary with renewed pledge to defend motherland

Pakistan Navy on Sunday commemorated the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq — Victory Day — with patriotic zeal and renewed resolve, paying tribute to the courage, sacrifices and unwavering commitment of the armed forces and martyrs who defended the motherland during the conflict.

The celebrations reflected the Pakistan Armed Forces’ steadfast determination to safeguard the country’s sovereignty while honouring the martyrs who, officials said, stood “like a wall of steel” during Marka-e-Haq.

To mark the occasion, the Pakistan Navy held a dignified ceremony at the Pakistan Navy Dockyard in Karachi.

Murad Ali Shah attended the ceremony as chief guest and laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada Monument to honour the martyrs.
