Transparency, accountability and reforms key to sustainable economic growth: Ishaq Dar

LAHORE: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday said transparency, accountability, reforms and strong financial governance were essential for achieving sustainable economic growth and strengthening investor confidence in Pakistan.

Addressing the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) Conference in Lahore, Dar emphasised that robust financial systems and institutional reforms were critical for ensuring economic resilience and long-term development.

According to a statement shared on X, the deputy prime minister also congratulated ICMA Pakistan on completing 75 years of service in advancing the accounting and finance profession and contributing to institutional development in the country.

In his address, Dar highlighted the growing impact of digital technologies on the accounting profession and stressed the need for professionals and institutions to adapt to rapidly evolving global trends.

He said Pakistan possessed “immense economic potential” and noted that strategic reforms, enhanced regional connectivity, fiscal discipline and institutional strengthening were helping position the country as a strong and sustainable economy.

The deputy prime minister also underlined Pakistan’s commitment to promoting regional peace, stability, dialogue and economic cooperation.

Emphasising the importance of regional collaboration through South Asian Federation of Accountants, Dar highlighted the need for youth empowerment and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reforms aimed at improving efficiency, accountability, sustainable development and shared prosperity.
