Punjab schools summer break: May 27 or June 1, which date is likely?
Punjab may bring forward summer vacations to May 27 as heatwave alerts and PDMA warnings disrupt classes. Eid ul Adha falls May 27–29, and officials are reviewing the academic calendar.

LAHORE: Punjab is moving closer to announcing early summer vacations for schools as rising temperatures and heatwave alerts begin disrupting normal academic activity across the province.
The discussion around an early closure has gained momentum due to the combined impact of expected extreme heat, upcoming Eid ul Adha holidays, and fresh weather warnings issued by the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). In its latest advisory covering May through July, the PDMA cautioned that temperatures across most districts are likely to remain above seasonal averages.
According to early indications, Eid ul Adha holidays are expected from May 27 to May 29. Since May 30 and May 31 fall on the weekend, education authorities are now considering adjusting the academic calendar and starting summer vacations from May 27 instead of the previously expected June 1 date.
This potential change is still under review, but officials are actively weighing weather conditions and holiday overlap to finalise a decision.
At the same time, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has proposed a broader restructuring of the academic calendar in the future, suggesting a reduction in both summer and winter vacations to compensate for learning losses. The proposal also includes increasing total annual school days from 180 to 190.
Meanwhile, private school associations have requested permission to run optional summer camps during the break, proposing early morning sessions between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. to continue limited academic engagement during the holiday period.
A final decision on the summer vacation schedule is expected soon as authorities monitor weather trends and consult stakeholders.
