KU teachers continue exam boycott, warn of complete shutdown

KARACHI: The Karachi University Teachers' Society has intensified its protest, deciding to continue its ongoing boycott of examinations and warning that the situation could lead to a complete shutdown of the university.

The decision was taken at a general body meeting, where participants expressed concern over what they described as the administration's failure to address long-standing issues. These included unpaid dues, what teachers called legitimate faculty demands, and the institution's worsening financial condition.

According to the meeting participants, the university is facing serious financial instability, administrative uncertainty and mismanagement, which they said are directly affecting academic and examination-related activities.

Concerns over administration and finances

Teachers at the meeting said the crisis had deepened due to unresolved financial and administrative matters. They voiced alarm over the university's overall situation and linked the ongoing disruption in academic affairs to these problems.

The meeting also strongly criticised what participants described as pressure tactics and harassment by the registrar's office and some administrative officials in different departments.

The society's president told the meeting that teachers, officers and employees were united on a common platform and would continue joint efforts to tackle the crisis facing the university.

Boycott to continue

The general body meeting unanimously decided to maintain the examination boycott, saying there had been no progress on the demands raised by the teachers.

As part of its next steps, the teachers' body announced that it would hold a press conference next week. It also said a detailed white paper on the university's financial and administrative issues would be issued.

The latest decision signals a further escalation in the standoff between the university administration and the teaching staff, with the teachers' society linking its protest to unresolved dues, administrative concerns and the broader financial difficulties faced by the institution.

The warning of a possible complete shutdown comes as the teachers' body continues to press for action on its demands and seeks to highlight what it says are serious governance and financial problems at Karachi University.
