KARACHI: Weather in Karachi is expected to stay hot and dry during the next 24 hours, with the temperature likely to remain under 40°C, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The Met Office said the maximum temperature is likely to remain between 37°C and 39°C. The minimum temperature recorded overnight was 26.5°C. The department also said winds were calm and humidity was measured at 48%.

The latest forecast came a day after Karachi recorded its hottest day of the year. The PMD said the mercury rose to 44.1°C on Monday.

Deaths reported amid intense heat

Separately, rescue officials told Geo News on Monday that at least eight people died in Karachi, with some of the deaths being linked to the severe heat affecting the city.

According to the rescue official, four bodies were recovered from streets in different parts of Karachi, while four other people died after being shifted to hospitals.

Rescue officials said the deceased included people found in Manghopir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Boat Basin and the Suparco Road area.

They added that four others were taken to hospitals from Liaquatabad, Jamali Bridge, Surjani Town and Defence Phase 8 after their condition worsened, but they could not survive.

Advisory for residents

Medical experts have advised residents to reduce outdoor movement, particularly during the hottest part of the day, and avoid direct sun exposure between 11am and 3pm. They have also urged people to remain well-hydrated and follow basic precautions to prevent heat-related stress as the weather system continues to intensify.

Experts further recommended avoiding street food, drinking only boiled water, and staying away from unhygienic food items and beverages that may cause stomach-related illnesses.

Residents have also been advised to wear loose, light-coloured clothing and cover their heads when going outside.

The PMD forecast indicates that while conditions will remain hot and dry in the city, temperatures are expected to stay below the 40°C mark over the coming 24 hours.
