Dar, Kuwaiti FM discuss Middle East crisis, back diplomacy on Hormuz tensions

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday held talks with Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, focusing on the evolving situation in the Middle East and its broader economic implications.

According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office Pakistan, the two leaders exchanged views on regional developments, with Dar highlighting Pakistan’s continued efforts to promote dialogue and constructive engagement to ensure peace and stability.

The Kuwaiti foreign minister appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic role, particularly its efforts to facilitate engagement between rival sides and promote lasting peace for the wider Muslim world and the international community.

Both sides reaffirmed strong bilateral ties between Pakistan and Kuwait, agreeing to maintain close coordination amid ongoing regional challenges.

The discussion comes against the backdrop of the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor that has remained disrupted during tensions linked to the United States-Iran standoff. The situation has raised global concerns over energy supplies and economic stability.

Meanwhile, Antonio Guterres has warned that continued instability in the region could have severe global economic consequences, including rising poverty and risks of recession.

Pakistan has been actively engaged in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran, including hosting the “Islamabad Talks” earlier this year. Officials say Islamabad continues to play a supportive role in diplomatic efforts aimed at sustaining a fragile ceasefire and encouraging negotiations.

The latest engagement underscores Pakistan’s ongoing push for diplomacy as tensions persist in the Middle East, with both sides acknowledging the importance of continued dialogue to prevent further escalation.
