FAISALABAD: Three men were shot dead in Faisalabad’s Lundianwala area during a dispute linked to wheat harvesting, police said on Tuesday.
According to initial reports cited by police, the incident took place in Chak 651-GB, where an argument during the harvesting process turned violent. Police said armed suspects identified as Farooq, Usman and others allegedly opened fire on their rivals, killing Imtiaz, Nasir and Jaffar at the scene.
After receiving information about the shooting, police officials reached the area and shifted the bodies to hospital for postmortem examination. A search operation was also launched to arrest the remaining suspects involved in the case.
City Police Officer (CPO) Sahibzada Bilal Umar took notice of the triple murder and sought a detailed report from the SP Jaranwala. Police said special teams had been constituted to apprehend those responsible.
Police confirmed that a retired SP, Chaudhry Farooq Handal, and his nephew Usman alias Shani had been taken into custody, while efforts were continuing to arrest other suspects.
Rise in killings linked to personal disputes
Official data also points to an increase in killings arising from personal disputes across Faisalabad district. According to statistics for the first four months of 2026, at least 78 people were killed in incidents related to old enmities, land disputes and personal conflicts.
The highest number of such killings was recorded in the rural Jaranwala division, where 24 people were shot dead. Madina Town division reported 19 killings, followed by Iqbal division with 17 cases.
In Saddar division, which largely consists of rural areas, 12 people were killed, while Lyallpur Town, covering central urban localities, recorded six killings.
Police officials said most suspects in these cases had been arrested and sent to jail. They added that even blind murder cases had been traced through modern investigative techniques.
The latest incident has again drawn attention to violent disputes in rural areas, particularly those connected to agricultural activity.
