BANNU: Police in Bannu said they repelled an attack on the Mazanga police post in the early hours of Wednesday, killing one terrorist during an exchange of fire.
According to police officials, heavily armed attackers targeted the post before police personnel responded quickly and thwarted the assault. Officials said the gun battle continued for some time.
Police said one terrorist was killed in the clash, while several others were injured. The wounded attackers were taken away by their accomplices under the cover of darkness, officials added.
After the incident, Bannu District Police Officer Yasir Afridi, Deputy Superintendent of Police Arshad Khan, and teams from the Rapid Response Force and Quick Response Force reached the site, according to officials.
The area was then cordoned off and a search operation was launched. Police also said blood traces were found at multiple locations, which they said suggested additional casualties among the attackers.
During the attack, a constable suffered minor injuries and was shifted to a hospital, officials said.
Search operation launched after attack
Police said the response by personnel at the Mazanga police post prevented the attackers from achieving their objective. Following the exchange of fire, additional police teams moved to the area and began a search operation.
Officials said the presence of blood at different points around the site indicated that more attackers may have been wounded during the clash. However, they said the injured men were removed by their accomplices in the darkness.
The incident drew a senior police response, with DPO Yasir Afridi and DSP Arshad Khan visiting the scene along with Rapid Response Force and Quick Response Force personnel.
The attack and the subsequent police action took place in Bannu, where officials said the Mazanga police post came under assault from heavily armed terrorists in the early hours of Wednesday.
