Rawalpindi courts award life term, jail sentences in separate cases

RAWALPINDI: District and sessions courts have handed down sentences to three convicts in separate cases involving murder, attempted murder and drug smuggling, imposing life imprisonment and other jail terms along with fines amounting to Rs1.66 million.

One of the rulings was issued by an Additional District and Sessions Judge in a murder case registered at Ratta Amral police station. The court convicted Ali Raza and awarded him life imprisonment. In addition to the life term, he was also sentenced to 10 years of further imprisonment and ordered to pay fines totalling Rs1.5 million. The court also directed him to furnish a surety bond of Rs200,000.

The case related to an incident in May 2022, when the convict opened fire during what was described as a minor altercation. One person was killed in the shooting, while another sustained injuries.

The three convictions were delivered in separate proceedings before district and sessions courts. Collectively, the punishments included life imprisonment, 28 years of jail time and financial penalties adding up to Rs1.66 million.

The cases covered three different offences: murder, attempted murder and drug smuggling. While details provided in the report focused on the murder case against Ali Raza, the courts sentenced three convicts overall in the separate matters.

In the murder case, the sentence combined a life term with an additional 10-year imprisonment, reflecting the court’s decision on the charges arising from the fatal shooting and the injury caused to another person in the same incident.

The fines imposed across the three cases totalled Rs1.66 million. Of that amount, Rs1.5 million was imposed in the case against Ali Raza. The court also required a surety bond of Rs200,000 in that matter.

The convictions were announced by district and sessions courts, with the murder case specifically decided by an Additional District and Sessions Judge.

Separate cases decided by district courts

The three cases were heard separately and resulted in convictions on charges of murder, attempted murder and drug smuggling. The combined outcome included life imprisonment, 28 years of imprisonment and fines totalling Rs1.66 million.

Among the cases detailed, the Rawalpindi court’s ruling in the Ratta Amral police station case concerned a shooting that stemmed from a minor dispute in May 2022. The firing left one person dead and another injured, leading to the conviction and sentencing of Ali Raza.
