PESHAWAR: Five PTCL employees working on the Bannu Safe City Project were abducted in Bannu, while two government officials were killed in separate attacks in Lakki Marwat district, according to police and details reported on Sunday.

The abduction took place in Mamsi Khel village, which falls within the limits of Cantt Police Station in Bannu. The workers were engaged in the installation of surveillance cameras for the Safe City Project when unidentified militants linked to a proscribed organisation took them away to an undisclosed location.

The abducted men were technicians present in the area for technical work related to the project. Police have started a search operation aimed at securing their recovery.

Abduction during Safe City Project work

The incident in Bannu occurred amid a rise in militant violence across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The five PTCL employees had been assigned to work on surveillance camera installation under the Safe City Project when they were abducted.

Police said the men were taken from Mamsi Khel village and moved to an unknown place. No further details about their identities were provided in the report.

Two officials killed in Lakki Marwat

In Lakki Marwat, two government employees were killed in separate incidents.

The first attack took place in Shadi Khel village in subdivision Bettani, where armed attackers shot dead FC official Jameel Bettani. He was at his home on leave at the time of the attack.

The second incident occurred near Dhooda. Unidentified men abducted Faridullah, an official of the Narcotics Department from Abdul Khel, and later killed him by opening fire near Dhooda.

Police confirmed that the bodies of both officials had been shifted to the local hospital.

The three incidents were reported as part of a broader wave of violence affecting parts of the province, with Bannu and Lakki Marwat among the districts hit by recent attacks.

No additional official statement beyond the police confirmation mentioned in the report was included regarding the motive for the attacks or the progress of the operation beyond the search for the abducted PTCL employees.
