Man killed, another injured in suspected targeted attack on I.I. Chundrigar Road

KARACHI: A 22-year-old man was shot dead and another person was injured in what police described as a suspected targeted attack on Karachi’s I.I. Chundrigar Road on Saturday evening.

According to Mithadar police, the deceased was identified as Noor Aziz, 22, while the injured man had not been identified at the time of reporting. Police said the incident took place when three men, including Aziz, were sitting outside a shop.

South DIG Syed Asad Raza said the attack appeared to be a targeted killing, although the exact motive had not yet been determined. He said assailants arrived at the scene on a motorbike, and one of them got off the vehicle before opening indiscriminate fire.

Police said the attackers fled after the shooting. Aziz sustained bullet injuries and died at the scene, while another man was hit in the leg. The wounded person was shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.

Officials said Noor Aziz was originally from Bannu. His body was moved to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

Police investigation under way

Police have termed the shooting a suspected targeted attack and said efforts were under way to determine the motive behind the killing. The senior police officer said the circumstances suggested that Aziz may have been specifically targeted, but no final conclusion had been reached.

The incident adds to a series of shooting cases reported in Karachi in recent days, with investigators continuing to examine possible motives in such attacks. In this case, police have so far only confirmed the sequence described by witnesses and the casualties reported after the gunfire.

Authorities have not publicly shared further details about the attackers beyond the fact that they were riding a motorbike. The injured man remained under treatment, while police continued their inquiry into the shooting.
