Four held over theft of traffic signal device

KARACHI: Darakhshan police have arrested four men in connection with the theft of a traffic signal device box from the Defence area and said the stolen equipment has been recovered.

According to SHO Darakhshan Rashid Ali, police were informed about the theft of a valuable traffic signal device box installed near the Khayaban-e-Shamsheer-Saba intersection in Defence.

After receiving the report, investigators obtained CCTV footage from the site of the incident as well as nearby locations. The footage helped police identify the suspects allegedly involved in the theft, the officer said.

Rashid Ali said police then carried out action based on intelligence and technical monitoring, leading to the arrest of four suspects identified as Farhan, Shan, Sadar Ali and Sanaullah.

During interrogation, the suspects admitted to removing the traffic signal device box from a pole on Khayaban-e-Shamsheer, according to the SHO. He said they also confessed to selling the stolen item with the help of another alleged accomplice, Mandri, who remains at large.

Police said the case relates to the theft of equipment used in the city’s traffic signal system. The recovered device was among the items seized during the operation, according to the police.

Investigation traced through CCTV and monitoring

The police account said the investigation moved forward after officers reviewed surveillance footage from the area surrounding the intersection. That material, combined with intelligence inputs and technical tracking, was used to trace and arrest the four suspects.

The SHO said the suspects were taken into custody after police linked them to the reported theft. He added that another suspect named Mandri had allegedly assisted in the sale of the stolen device and had not yet been arrested.

No further details were provided in the police statement about when the theft took place or where the device was sold after it was removed.

The arrests were made in a case registered after the reported theft near the Khayaban-e-Shamsheer-Saba intersection in Defence, police said.
