PM Shehbaz, Chinese envoy reaffirm strategic ties, discuss regional peace efforts
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Chinese envoy Jiang Zaidong to reaffirm Pakistan-China strategic ties and coordinate diplomatic efforts for peace and de-escalation in the Middle East amid rising regional tensions.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday held a comprehensive meeting with Jiang Zaidong during a courtesy call, reaffirming the depth of Pakistan-China relations and reviewing the evolving regional situation, particularly in the Middle East.
The meeting, attended by senior members of Pakistan’s civilian and diplomatic leadership, underscored Islamabad’s coordinated approach to foreign policy at a time of heightened regional tensions. Among those present were Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, and Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch.
During the interaction, Prime Minister Shehbaz conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, reflecting the continuity of high-level political engagement between the two countries.
Expressing satisfaction over the steady upward trajectory of bilateral ties, the prime minister reiterated that Pakistan takes immense pride in its “All-Weather Cooperative Strategic Partnership” with China. He emphasised that the relationship remains a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy and a stabilising factor in a rapidly changing regional and global landscape.
The prime minister also highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to further deepening cooperation with China across a broad spectrum of areas, including economic development, infrastructure, regional connectivity and technological collaboration. He underscored Islamabad’s resolve to work closely with Beijing to ensure that bilateral ties continue to grow “from strength to strength,” translating political goodwill into tangible outcomes.
A key focus of the meeting was the regional situation, particularly developments in the Middle East, where Pakistan has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and conflict resolution. Prime Minister Shehbaz outlined Pakistan’s ongoing initiatives to promote dialogue, facilitate engagement among key stakeholders, and contribute to peaceful solutions through diplomacy.
Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, in his remarks, conveyed Beijing’s appreciation for Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic role in promoting regional peace and stability. He acknowledged Islamabad’s efforts in facilitating dialogue and fostering an environment conducive to negotiations amid complex geopolitical tensions.
Reaffirming China’s consistent support, the ambassador stressed that Beijing remains firmly committed to strengthening its “iron-clad” ties with Pakistan. He noted that the bilateral relationship, anchored in mutual trust and shared strategic interests, continues to serve as a model of inter-state cooperation.
The envoy further emphasised China’s willingness to elevate the partnership to new heights, in line with the vision of President Xi Jinping, particularly through enhanced cooperation in key sectors such as industry, energy, infrastructure and innovation.
Both sides reiterated their shared commitment to maintaining close coordination at the leadership level and expanding institutional linkages to address emerging challenges and opportunities. The meeting also reflected a broader convergence of views on the importance of peace, development and multilateral cooperation in ensuring regional and global stability.
As Pakistan navigates an increasingly complex geopolitical environment, the engagement with China highlights the enduring strength of their partnership and the mutual intent to deepen collaboration in pursuit of shared strategic and economic objectives.
