MA Jinnah Road chokes as Green Line kills Seabreeze signal
The permanent closure of the Seabreeze signal on MA Jinnah Road has disrupted traffic in Karachi and caused delays for commuters. Officials say the move is part of Green Line construction, with two more signal closures planned.

KARACHI: Traffic movement on MA Jinnah Road has been badly affected after the permanent closure of the Seabreeze signal, which had been obstructing the Green Line track, according to officials.
The closure has interrupted a route that was widely used by motorists travelling from Soldier Bazaar towards Empress Market, adding to difficulties for commuters and increasing congestion on one of the city’s busiest roads.
Officials said the Seabreeze signal was shut as part of ongoing work on the Green Line project, which they described as moving ahead quickly. They said the closure was necessary to facilitate construction activity along the corridor.
The disruption has led to traffic diversions in the area, resulting in lengthy delays and bottlenecks. Commuters have expressed frustration over the sudden change, as the closure has added to travel time on MA Jinnah Road.
More closures planned on the route
According to the officials, the next phase of the project will also involve the closure of two more signals on the stretch between Numaish Chowrangi and Municipal Services Park.
They said these steps are being taken as work on the Green Line infrastructure continues. The officials added that the overall project is expected to be completed by October this year.
The Seabreeze signal had served as an important connection for traffic moving through central Karachi. With that route no longer available, pressure has increased on surrounding roads and intersections, contributing to heavier congestion in the area.
Authorities have linked the closure directly to the Green Line construction work and indicated that further traffic management changes are likely as the project advances through its next stages.
The development has created inconvenience for daily commuters using MA Jinnah Road, particularly those relying on the former route between Soldier Bazaar and Empress Market. With additional signal closures planned, traffic conditions on the corridor may remain under strain while construction continues.
