Woman, grand daughter die as car falls into canal
A woman and her four-year-old granddaughter died after a car collided with a motorcycle and plunged into the Pakpattan Link Canal near village 407-EB. One woman was rescued injured, while a toddler remained missing and the search was set to resume at first light.

PAKPATTAN: A woman and her four-year-old granddaughter died after a car went into a canal following a collision with a motorcycle near village 407-EB, rescue officials said.
As per details, the accident took place on a road running alongside the Pakpattan Link Canal. Rescue sources said the car hit a motorcycle, after which the driver lost control and the vehicle plunged into the canal.
The deceased were identified as 55-year-old Farah Begum, a resident of Adda Kameer, and her granddaughter Marha Fatima. Rescue teams recovered their bodies from the canal and shifted them to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.
Another passenger in the car, Amina Bibi, who is the mother of the deceased child, was pulled out of the canal with injuries, according to rescue officials.
Officials said a one-and-a-half-year-old girl, Hoorain Fatima, who was also travelling in the car, went missing in the canal after the incident. Rescue teams began a search operation to trace the child, but the effort was later suspended because of darkness.
The motorcyclist involved in the collision also suffered injuries in the accident.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Imran Tipu and Assistant Commissioner Jawad Malik reached the site and oversaw the rescue operation, officials said.
Authorities said the search for the missing child would resume at first light.
Rescue operation launched after canal accident
Rescue officials said teams responded to the scene after the vehicle fell into the canal near village 407-EB. The bodies of the woman and child were retrieved, while one injured passenger was rescued and shifted for medical treatment.
The search operation for the missing toddler continued until nightfall before being halted due to low visibility. Officials said the operation would restart in the morning.
Police and local administration officers also visited the scene during the rescue work. DSP Imran Tipu and Assistant Commissioner Jawad Malik supervised the response as teams worked at the canal site.
The incident left multiple members of the same family affected, with two deaths confirmed, one woman injured and one child still unaccounted for at the time officials suspended the search.
