A man has been arrested in Gujranwala after a disturbing video showing him allegedly harassing a burqa-clad woman in a public area went viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage.
The incident took place in the Kot Qazi area of Ladhywala Warraich, where the accused, riding a motorcycle, was seen approaching and harassing the woman on the street. The clip quickly spread online, prompting calls for immediate action against the individual.
Following the backlash, local police moved swiftly and arrested the suspect. Authorities confirmed that legal proceedings are underway.
Shortly after his arrest, another video surfaced showing the accused lying on a hospital bed, where he recorded an apology. Identifying himself as Shahzada Gulfam from Sialkot, he admitted to harassing women in public and acknowledged that a video of one such incident had gone viral days earlier.
He claimed that when police attempted to apprehend him, he tried to flee from a checkpoint but fell during the escape. According to his statement, a weapon he was carrying discharged during the fall, resulting in serious injury.
In the video, he apologised to “all daughters and sisters” and to society at large, expressing regret over his actions and thanking the police for “bringing him back to the right path.”
The case has once again highlighted concerns around women’s safety in public spaces, with many calling for stricter enforcement and accountability in such incidents.
