Family misses flight after toy gun found in luggage, pays S$3,000 for new tickets

A Singaporean family missed their flight after a toy gun was discovered in their child’s hand luggage during airport security screening, forcing them to spend around S$3,000 on new tickets.

The incident was shared by Sharon Tang, who recounted the experience in an Instagram post to warn other parents about checking children’s bags before travel. She said the situation served as a learning moment for her family.

Speaking to Mothership, Tang said the family took full responsibility for the incident, adding that their son had been excited about the trip and they had not checked his bag carefully.

The family had arrived for a morning flight at Changi Airport Terminal when the toy gun was flagged during screening, leading to delays that ultimately caused them to miss their departure.

Tang said she shared the experience to remind parents to thoroughly inspect their children’s belongings before heading to the airport to avoid similar disruptions.
