Caterer throws 11-year-old into burning tandoor for taking extra rasgullas
An 11-year-old boy in Uttar Pradesh suffered severe burns after a dispute with a catering contractor over sweets at a wedding in Basti. He was shifted to Lucknow Medical College; police have registered an attempted murder case and launched a search.

A wedding celebration in India’s Uttar Pradesh turned into a horrifying incident after an 11-year-old boy was severely burned following an altercation with a catering contractor over sweets.
The child, identified as Chaman from Gonda district, was attending the event in Basti with his grandmother. According to reports, he had repeatedly been taking rasgullas from the dessert counter — something not unusual for a child at a wedding.
However, the situation escalated when the catering contractor became enraged. Witness accounts suggest that he tried to intimidate the boy by lifting him and holding him near a burning tandoor. In the process, the child lost balance and fell into the fire.
Family members rushed to his aid after hearing his screams and managed to pull him out, but not before he had suffered severe burns from his face down to his waist.
He was initially taken to a local facility and later shifted to Lucknow Medical College due to the seriousness of his condition. Police officials have confirmed that his condition remains critical and treatment is ongoing.
A case of attempted murder has been registered, and authorities have launched a search operation for the accused, who fled immediately after the incident.
Beyond the legal action, the case has triggered widespread outrage, with many questioning how a situation involving a child at a wedding could escalate to such a violent extent. The incident has also reignited conversations around child safety and accountability in public gatherings.
At its core, it remains a deeply disturbing reminder — a moment that should have been harmless, even trivial, turned into something life-altering.
