Woman, two sons found shot dead at home in Karachi’s Naval Colony

KARACHI: A woman and her two teenage sons were found dead inside their residence in Naval Colony on Sunday, police said.

According to police, a relative informed them that the bodies were lying inside the house, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Saeedabad police station. After receiving the information, a police team reached the scene and moved the bodies to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

The deceased were identified as 35-year-old Samiya Mehboob Ahmed and her two sons, 14-year-old Shehroz and 13-year-old Abdullah. Police said the family originally belonged to Bahawalpur.

Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said each of the three victims had suffered a single bullet wound to the face.

South DIG Syed Asad Raza told Dawn that investigators suspected Samiya’s former husband, Shaukat, and were treating him as the prime suspect in the case. He said the couple had separated about two years ago and their relationship had remained strained since then.

Saeedabad SHO Pervez Solangi said police were investigating the killings to trace the suspect and determine the exact motive behind the murders.

Mechanic killed in separate firing incident

In another incident in the Saeedabad area on Sunday, a mechanic was shot dead and another man was injured when armed assailants opened fire at a shop, police said.

Police said four gunmen riding two motorcycles arrived at the shop in Gulshan-i-Mazdoor and resorted to indiscriminate firing, leaving two people wounded.

The injured were taken to Civil Hospital Karachi, where 25-year-old Maisam died during treatment. Another injured man, identified as 25-year-old Abdul Majeed, was admitted for medical care.

SHO Pervez Solangi said the killing appeared to have stemmed from personal enmity.
