Teenage daughter of MNA dies after alleged stray bullet injury

KARACHI: An 18-year-old medical student, who was the daughter of Member of the National Assembly Iqbal Masood, died after sustaining what police described as an alleged stray bullet injury at her home in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

According to the details reported, the incident took place on Saturday night in Block 7 of Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Maah Noor was reportedly inside her house when she was struck in the head by a bullet fired from an unknown direction.

She was moved to a private hospital in critical condition and died on Sunday morning while under treatment.

Police account and initial family version

SHO Muhammad Saood said the family had initially told police that the young woman had fallen from the stairs and suffered a head injury. Under that account, she was taken to Patel Hospital, where she later passed away.

However, during the preliminary investigation, police found indications that the injury had been caused by a bullet. Officials said the family later described the incident as one involving a stray bullet, but did not want to take legal action.

Police said further investigation into the matter was continuing.

Funeral held in Gulshan-e-Iqbal

The funeral prayers for Maah Noor were offered at Madina Mosque in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 7. A large number of relatives and family members attended the funeral.

She was later buried at a local graveyard.

The case has drawn attention because of the circumstances surrounding the death and the differing versions that emerged at the initial stage. Police, first received information from the family that the victim had suffered a head injury after falling from stairs. The matter took a different turn when investigators, during their early inquiry, found evidence pointing to a bullet wound.

Officials said the family subsequently termed it a stray bullet incident. Despite this, the family declined to pursue legal proceedings. Police have said the investigation is still under way to determine the circumstances in which the bullet struck the victim inside the house.

Maah Noor was identified in the report as an 18-year-old medical student and the daughter of MNA Iqbal Masood. The incident occurred in one of Karachi’s densely populated residential localities, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, where the victim was said to have been inside her home at the time she was hit.
