Two brothers shot dead in Quetta shooting

KARACHI: Two brothers were killed in a shooting at their residence in Quetta’s Kasi Road area on Friday evening, police said.

According to police, the attack took place at the home of former Deputy Director of the Balochistan Board, Haji Atalullah, on Abdul Majid Street around dusk on April 17.

Police said an unidentified man arrived at the house in a vehicle and knocked on the door. When Atalullah’s elder son, Saadatullah, came out in response, an argument broke out between the two.

Hearing the exchange, the younger brother, Aminullah, also came outside, police said. The assailant then opened fire on both brothers before fleeing the scene on foot and leaving the vehicle behind.

Police said Saadatullah and Aminullah died on the spot.

A large police contingent reached the area after the shooting, sealed off the scene and shifted the bodies to a hospital to complete legal formalities. The bodies were later handed over to the family.

Qaidabad police have registered a case, while the investigation has been handed over to the Serious Crime Investigation Wing.

Police said no motive had been established so far and no arrests had been made.

The incident spread fear and tension in the locality.

Investigation under way

Police said the shooting appeared to be a targeted attack carried out at the family’s residence. Investigators are examining the circumstances in which the suspect reached the house, argued with one of the victims and then opened fire before escaping on foot.

Officials said the abandoned vehicle was left at the scene after the attacker fled. The case has now been transferred to the Serious Crime Investigation Wing for further investigation.

No further details about the suspect or the possible motive were available in the initial police account.
