LAHORE: Hazim Bangwar, serving as an Assistant Commissioner in Karachi, has warned that a coordinated smear campaign may be launched against him following recent enforcement actions in his jurisdiction.
In a video statement, Bangwar said he anticipates the circulation of “fake news and videos” on social media in the coming days, linking it to what he described as action taken against illegal activities.
He stated that whenever action is taken against corruption or unlawful operations, those affected often attempt to shift the narrative through online campaigns targeting officials involved in enforcement work.
“Why? Because when you work against corruption and take action against illegal activities, the stakeholders launch a smear campaign against you,” he said in the video, adding that public perception is often manipulated to change the narrative around official operations.
Bangwar further added that, as an officer, he is required to continue his duties regardless of such pressure, but wanted to alert the public in advance about what he believes may follow. He also claimed the expected backlash is linked to recent enforcement actions, including the shutting down of 14 illegal shops in his subdivision.
“Just keep in mind, I told you in advance,” he said, urging viewers to be aware of potential misinformation campaigns.
Bangwar has previously gained public attention for his visible presence during anti-encroachment drives and civic enforcement operations, as well as for his active engagement in urban management efforts in Karachi, particularly in areas such as North Nazimabad.
The video has since circulated widely online, with users debating both the enforcement actions and the broader issue of how officials navigate public perception and digital backlash after crackdowns on illegal activities.
