Two children injured in stray dog attack in Khanewal village
Two children were injured in a stray dog attack in Nanakpur village, Khanewal, with one shifted to Multan in critical condition. The incident sparked protests and led the administration to send dog culling teams to the area.
MULTAN: Two children were seriously injured after a pack of stray dogs attacked them in Khanewal district, triggering protests by local residents and prompting action by the district administration.
The incident took place in Nanakpur village, where two boys — eight-year-old Abdul Hannan and 10-year-old Shahzaib — were going to a grocery shop when stray dogs set upon them in the street and mauled them.
Both children were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital Khanewal for treatment. Shahzaib was given stitches to a head wound and treated for multiple injuries. Abdul Hannan, whose condition was reported to be critical, was later shifted to the Children’s Hospital in Multan.
Residents protest after attack
The attack caused alarm among residents in the area, with locals staging a protest after the incident. The demonstration led the district administration to respond by sending dog culling teams to the locality in an effort to control the stray dog population.
Residents, however, said official claims about action against stray dogs had not translated into effective measures across the district. They alleged that children were continuing to come under attack on a daily basis.
A similar incident had occurred a day earlier in Jahanian, where a four-year-old boy was also seriously injured in a stray dog attack.
Calls for sustained action
People in the area urged the authorities to move beyond temporary steps and adopt practical, lasting measures to address the threat posed by stray dogs and protect the public.
The latest incident has added to concerns among residents of Khanewal and nearby areas, where repeated attacks by stray dogs have caused fear and raised questions about the effectiveness of the response so far.
The two boys were badly injured in the latest attack, with one of them requiring transfer to Multan because of the severity of his condition. The incident has further intensified public concern over stray dog attacks in the district and surrounding localities.
