Six-year-old boy dies after stray dog attack

MULTAN: A six-year-old boy has died after suffering critical injuries in a stray dog attack in Alipur tehsil, in an incident that has renewed concern over the growing stray dog problem in the area.

As per details, the child was identified as Rizwan. His family said the attack took place within the limits of Kandai police station, where a group of stray dogs mauled him and left him seriously injured.

Following the attack, the boy was taken to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital in Alipur for emergency medical treatment. Owing to the seriousness of his condition, doctors later referred him to Nishtar Hospital Multan for further care.

According to the family, Rizwan remained under treatment for three days. However, he could not recover from his injuries and died on Saturday.

Police begin investigation

Police have started an investigation into the incident.

The case has drawn attention to the issue of stray dogs in the locality, where residents have faced concerns linked to the presence of stray animals. The latest death has added to worries about public safety in the area.

The victim’s death came after he sustained severe injuries in the attack and was shifted between medical facilities for treatment. The family’s account placed the incident in the jurisdiction of Kandai police station in Alipur tehsil.

Hospital care was first provided at THQ Hospital Alipur before the child was moved to Nishtar Hospital Multan because of the extent of his wounds. Despite three days of treatment, he did not survive.

Authorities have not released further details beyond confirming that an investigation has been initiated. The incident nonetheless underscores the seriousness of stray dog attacks in parts of south Punjab, particularly where residents have raised concerns over the stray animal menace. The boy’s death has become the latest reported case linked to stray dogs in the region, with the police inquiry now under way.
