LAHORE: A deputy superintendent of police has been removed from service after an inquiry found him guilty of misusing his authority and engaging in inappropriate conduct with a female complainant during the course of an investigation, officials said.
According to an official inquiry report, the officer was identified as DSP Hassan. He was accused of forming an improper relationship with a complainant while dealing with her case.
The inquiry report further stated that he allegedly pressured the woman by offering to settle her legal matter in return for personal meetings.
The complainant had originally submitted a harassment application against the officer in 2023.
Multiple reviews conducted
Officials said an earlier inquiry carried out under DIG Ameen Bukhari had recommended a minor penalty in the case. However, the matter was revisited after the complainant sought a review of that decision.
Following her request, a fresh investigation was ordered. Officials said a detailed probe was then conducted by Additional IG Muhammad Idrees.
After that, the case underwent another review by Additional IG Imran Mehmood.
The proceedings ultimately led to the dismissal of the DSP from service after the findings established misconduct, misuse of authority and inappropriate behaviour with the complainant during the investigation of her case.
The development follows a sequence of internal reviews within the police department, beginning with the initial harassment complaint and ending with the officer’s removal after subsequent inquiries re-examined the matter in greater detail.
Officials did not provide further details in the report beyond the findings of the inquiry and the disciplinary action taken against the officer.
