QUETTA: A deadly shooting in Quetta on Tuesday left three people dead and two others critically injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a vehicle along Sariab Road, police officials said.
The attack occurred in the busy Faizabad area, where assailants targeted the vehicle before fleeing the scene. Law enforcement authorities swiftly cordoned off the area, shifted the victims to hospital, and launched a search operation to track down the attackers.
The deceased were identified as Haroon Mengal, son of Jamil Mengal; Ghafoor, son of Waheed Bakhsh; and Naseebullah. The injured included Jamil Mengal and Abdul Hafeez.
Deputy Inspector General Imran Shaukat confirmed that evidence had been collected from the site and a formal investigation was underway. He added that CCTV footage had been secured and was being analyzed to identify those responsible, while special teams were conducting raids at multiple locations.
One of the injured, Jamil Mengal, said the attack took place as he was returning home after a court appearance. He revealed that his son, Haroon Mengal, was among those killed in the incident.
The latest violence comes amid a troubling pattern of attacks in the region. Just days earlier, gunmen targeted the Hazarganji fruit and vegetable market in Quetta, killing two members of the Hazara community and injuring three others.
In a separate incident in March, at least five people were killed and two injured in coordinated terrorist attacks in Panjgur, underscoring the persistent security challenges in Balochistan.
