Security plan finalised for Sikh pilgrims attending Baisakhi at Panja Sahib

ATTOCK: Authorities have put in place extensive security arrangements for the arrival of Sikh pilgrims attending the Baisakhi Mela 2026 at Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib, with officials aiming to ensure a safe and smooth celebration.

Around 6,000 pilgrims from Pakistan and abroad are expected to participate in the annual religious festival, one of the most significant events in the Sikh calendar, where devotees gather to perform rituals at the historic shrine.

Police officials said more than 1,200 personnel have been deployed across key نقاط, working under the supervision of District Police Officer Sardar Moarhan Khan. The security plan includes multiple layers of protection, with officers stationed at entry points, routes, and داخل the gurdwara premises.

The deployment comprises senior officers and field staff, including DSPs, inspectors, SHOs, and a large contingent of constables and lady police, supported by reserve units. In addition, 18 squads of Elite Commandos have been assigned to reinforce security and respond to any emergency.

Officials said the plan focuses on crowd management, route security, and surveillance to prevent any untoward incident during the مراسم. “Protection of religious sites and their followers is our top priority,” the DPO said, adding that strict action would be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt law and order.

Ahead of the main ceremony, pilgrims have also visited Gurdwara Sacha Sauda, where they performed religious rites. The central Baisakhi gathering is scheduled to take place at Panja Sahib on Tuesday, expected to draw large crowds under heightened security.
