Motorist detained after allegedly threatening traffic police in Murree

Murree: Police detained a motorist on Sunday after he allegedly threatened and misbehaved with traffic wardens who had stopped his vehicle during a routine check in Murree, according to police.

The incident took place at Jhika Gali Chowk, where traffic police officials intercepted a vehicle that had no number plate and black-tinted windows. Police said the vehicle was stopped during routine checking because it appeared suspicious.

According to the police account, when officials asked for the vehicle’s documents, the driver reacted aggressively. He introduced himself as the chancellor of Nawab Shah University and allegedly issued threats to Beat Incharge Malik Hafeez.

Police said the man did not produce any identification papers or vehicle documents at the spot. He then left the scene while continuing to threaten the officials, according to the police version.

Murree District Police Officer Raza Tanveer took notice of the matter and ordered immediate blockades, police said. Following those measures, the suspect was apprehended and taken to Phagwari Police Station.

Police action and release

According to police sources, the suspect later admitted his mistake at the police station and apologised to the traffic police personnel as well as Malik Hafeez.

Police said he was subsequently released after being issued a heavy fine challan.

The case stemmed from the stopping of a vehicle that, according to the police, was being driven without a number plate and with tinted windows. The police account further said the driver claimed to be a university chancellor during the exchange with officials, but did not provide identification when asked for documents.

No further details were provided in the report regarding the man’s identity or the amount of the fine challan. The police version stated that the matter was addressed after the suspect was brought to the police station, where he apologised before being released.
