Four jewellers of a family robbed in Quetta burglary
Four jewellers from the same extended family were robbed in Quetta’s Pashtoonabad area while they were away at a wedding, according to a police complaint. The case has been handed to the Serious Crime Investigation Wing.
QUETTA: Four jewellers from the same extended family were robbed of cash, gold ornaments and a large quantity of silver in a burglary in the Pashtoonabad area, according to a complaint lodged with police.
The incident took place while the families had gone to attend a relative’s wedding ceremony on Sariab Road, leaving their homes unattended. When they returned at around 6am the following morning, they found the houses ransacked and valuables missing.
Nazir Ahmed, a jeweller and resident of Pashtoonabad, filed a formal complaint at the Pashtoonabad police station. He told police that six houses belonging to their family are situated in a small residential colony in the area. He said that on the night of the incident, he and the families of his cousins had gone to the wedding hall and only came back at dawn.
According to the complaint, four unidentified armed men climbed over the boundary walls of the houses, entered the premises and carried out the theft before escaping on motorcycles.
Items reported stolen
The complaint said Nazir Ahmed’s house was looted of 50kg silver blocks, two grams of gold ornaments and Rs6 million in cash.
From the house of his cousin Shabir Ahmed, the burglars allegedly took 78 grams of gold ornaments, Rs2 million in cash and one licensed pistol.
From cousin Khan Muhammad’s house, 130 grams of gold ornaments and Rs2.5 million in cash were reported stolen.
From cousin Zubair Ahmed’s house, the stolen items included 50 grams of gold ornaments, two kilograms of silver and Rs1.5 million in cash.
In total, the robbers made off with about 52 kilograms of silver, 458 grams of gold ornaments and Rs12 million in cash, according to the complaint.
Investigation handed over
After the case was registered, Pashtoonabad police transferred the investigation to the Serious Crime Investigation Wing.
SSP Serious Crime Investigation Wing Malik Muhammad Asghar Usman has constituted a special team to investigate the burglary. The team has taken CCTV footage from the area into custody and started efforts to identify and arrest those involved.
The burglary targeted four professional jewellers from the same family and took place in a small residential colony in Pashtoonabad while family members were away for the wedding ceremony, the complaint stated.
