Trader robbed of Rs7 million at gunpoint in Chakdara, police launch probe

CHAKDARA: A trader was robbed of Rs7 million in a daylight armed robbery in Chakdara, according to Lower Dir police, who said unidentified gunmen targeted Khushal Khan and fled after taking the cash.

Police said the assailants held the trader at gunpoint and also subjected him to severe violence during the incident. The victim was seriously injured and was shifted to Chakdara Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

The robbery has triggered concern among local residents, who said the incident has deepened fear in the area and renewed worries over the law and order situation in Chakdara.

Police register case after incident

According to police, officers reached the scene soon after receiving information about the robbery. An FIR was registered, evidence was collected from the site, and an investigation was launched to trace those involved.

The incident involved unidentified armed men, police said, adding that efforts were under way to investigate the case.

Residents and traders voice concern

Residents expressed alarm over what they described as a worsening security situation in the area. They said incidents of theft and robbery have been increasing in Chakdara and raised concerns about the response of the local administration and police.

Locals said the protection of citizens’ lives and property is the responsibility of the state and law enforcement agencies, and voiced dissatisfaction over what they see as a failure to effectively curb such crimes.

The traders’ community in Chakdara Bazaar also expressed serious concern over the rising number of robbery incidents. Traders warned that if the suspects in the latest case are not arrested within three days, they will stage a street protest.

The latest robbery has added to anxiety among business owners in the market, where traders say repeated incidents of theft and robbery are affecting the sense of security in the area.

Police have begun their investigation after registering the case, while the victim remains under treatment at Chakdara Hospital following the attack.
