Defending champions Lahore Qalandars have signed Sri Lankan all-rounder Charith Asalanka as a replacement for injured Bangladeshi wicketkeeper-batter Parvez Hossain Emon for the remainder of Pakistan Super League season 11.
Emon was ruled out of the tournament after sustaining a shoulder injury, bringing an early end to his campaign with the franchise.
The left-handed Asalanka, who also bowls off-spin, brings international experience across formats and is expected to strengthen the team’s middle order during the final phase of the competition.
Emon suffered the injury during Lahore Qalandars’ match against Multan Sultans in Lahore earlier this month.
The incident occurred following an on-field collision with Asif Ali, resulting in a ligament tear, after which he was unable to continue in the tournament.
He had played three matches for Lahore Qalandars in the ongoing season before being sidelined.
Asalanka is set to join the squad ahead of their upcoming fixture against Quetta Gladiators on April 17.
Lahore Qalandars currently sit sixth on the points table, with two wins and three defeats from five matches.
The team is coming off a heavy loss to Peshawar Zalmi, where they were bowled out for 97 in 17 overs while chasing a target of 174.
