Barrister Salman Safdar meets Imran Khan at Adiala jail after IHC order

ISLAMABAD: Barrister Salman Safdar met Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan at Adiala jail on Thursday, a day after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) directed the authorities to facilitate the meeting.

The meeting took place after the IHC allowed Safdar to consult Imran regarding proceedings in the Al Qadir case, in which the lawyer is representing the former prime minister.

After the meeting, Safdar left the jail premises without speaking to the media or disclosing any details of his discussion with Imran.

IHC had permitted consultation on Al Qadir case

The court order issued on Wednesday allowed Safdar to meet Imran to discuss the Al Qadir case proceedings. The meeting followed the court’s directions to the jail authorities.

This was the second time this year that Safdar met Imran at Adiala jail. The earlier meeting had also taken place on the court’s instructions after concerns were raised about Imran’s health.

PTI postpones Liaqat Bagh public meeting

Meanwhile, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said Imran had directed the party to postpone its public meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 9, at Liaqat Bagh.

Akram said a message had been conveyed by Imran that the protest should be deferred because of the prevailing national and international situation.

The developments came a day after the IHC’s directions regarding Safdar’s access to the PTI founder in jail. The court’s order specifically related to legal consultation in the Al Qadir case, while the party separately announced the postponement of its planned public gathering in Rawalpindi.

Thursday’s meeting and the postponement of the Liaqat Bagh event were the two key developments reported in connection with Imran and PTI.
