ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leaders reached Adiala jail on Thursday after missing visits for the previous two weeks, but they were not allowed to meet incarcerated party founder Imran Khan.
The Islamabad High Court has permitted Imran Khan to meet his family, lawyers and other associates twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. However, despite those court orders, his meetings with family members and party leaders have largely remained restricted.
According to the reported sequence of events, Imran Khan’s sisters have continued to appear at the jail on Tuesdays, while party leaders had not turned up over the last two weeks, drawing criticism of the party leadership.
Fresh list submitted for jail visit
On Wednesday, a list of PTI leaders seeking to meet Imran Khan was sent to the Adiala jail superintendent. The first list included PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Advocate Hamid Khan and Barrister Ali Zafar.
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, who has been authorised by the Islamabad High Court to provide the names of leaders intending to meet Imran Khan to the jail administration, later withdrew that list and submitted a revised one.
The new list included Salman Akram Raja, Humayun Mohmand, Ali Muhammad Khan, Sahibzada Sibghatullah, Mehboob Shah and Ali Bukhari.
All six leaders named in the revised list arrived at Adiala jail on Thursday in an attempt to meet the PTI founder. Despite waiting there, they were again denied access.
PTI says it will move Supreme Court again
Speaking to Dawn, Salman Akram Raja said all six leaders on the list had reached Adiala jail and remained there for a considerable period in the hope that permission for the meeting would be granted.
“Stayed there for two-and-a-half hours, with the hope that meeting with Imran would be allowed”, he stated.
He said the party had decided to once again approach the Supreme Court over the issue of meetings between PTI leaders and Imran Khan.
"The party has decided to approach the Supreme Court again to ensure party leaders’ meetings with Imran", he added.
Raja also said the party’s appeal had been awaiting hearing since October 2025 and added that repeated requests had been made to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi for the petition to be taken up.
“Our appeal has been pending since October 2025. We have time and again appealed to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi to ensure that our petition would be heard,” he concluded.
The latest development comes amid continued disputes over implementation of court-allowed meetings for the former prime minister at Adiala jail. Thursday’s attempted visit marked the return of PTI leaders to the prison after a two-week gap, but it did not result in access to Imran Khan.
